o Time banks are based on reciprocity – members need to both give and receive hours in order for the time bank to keep going.

o Here are some examples to help with understanding how it works:

1 to 1 exchange

Sam gives an hour, working in Jo's garden.

Sam earns 1 hour.

Jo spends 1 hour.

Group exchange (example 1)

Sam gives a talk about gardening to a group.

Sam earns 1 hour.

Jo and Lee and Bob go to the talk - they each spend 1 hour.

Community Pot / other member

Lee has earned a lot of hours.

Lee donates 5 hours to the community pot and another 5 hours to Jo.

The community receives 5 hours.

Jo receives 5 hours.

Lee's account is debited by 10 hours.
